Julia Fairweather - Associate

Associate Governor, Safeguarding Link Governor

Most people know me as Twig…

I grew up in South Wales, attended Agricultural College and then moved to Sussex where I worked with Race Horses for several years.  Whilst there I attended Night School and eventually became a PA working for a Programme Management Company in London.

I’ve been married to Mark Fairweather for 15 years and we have two crazy children together.  Mark attended Balcombe School and his Dad designed and oversaw the building of the School Hall!

I’ve been with the Metropolitan Police since 2004.  I have held various roles within the organisation both in and out of uniform.  I took a career break to look after my children and during this time I was Co- Chair at Tiggers Pre-School, then more recently joined the Governing Body at Balcombe School and also embarked on training as a Coach for Riding for the Disabled.  I returned to work in June 2019.

My job has been and is varied, exciting, eye opening and very much people orientated.  I feel this gives me a bit of insight into different cultures, diversities and backgrounds.  I think it has shaped me into a tolerant person and has made me passionate about equality for all people, particularly children.  I strongly believe in making sure every child has the best chance to succeed in life and being a school governor helps me to be part of that.
