My family moved to the village in November 2021 and we were delighted when our daughter got a place at Balcombe Primary School. One of the reasons we were drawn to moving here, after living in London and then Surrey, is because Balcombe clearly has such a strong community within such a beautiful, rural setting. From the first time my husband and I visited, people would stop and speak to us and tell us how great the local school would be for our two girls. I decided to become a Parent Governor because I wanted to become part of this community through meeting other local people connected to the school.
I bring to the role of Governor my own experiences of working in teaching and leadership positions in both secondary and primary settings. I currently specialise in phonics and literacy; I work as a consultant providing support and training to schools to ensure every child can learn to read and write. In working across numerous schools to drive improvement I have gained a range of skills I know will also be beneficial in fulfilling this Governor position.
As a Parent Governor, I am looking forward to the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Governing Body team and staff to make a valuable contribution to children’s education and opportunities. It is a privilege to volunteer in the village that’s now our home.
